Meteorology: Rain and floods in Jazan and Qassim, and important warnings issued

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important warning on Thursday regarding the expected weather conditions in the Jazan region, indicating the possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by various weather phenomena that may affect daily life and traffic.
Weather details in Jazan
The center explained in its report that the expected rainfall in the Jazan region will be accompanied by strong winds, leading to dust storms and near-zero horizontal visibility, especially on highways and in open areas. The forecast also includes thunderstorms and hail, with a high probability of flash floods in valleys and ravines.
The report identified the areas affected by this situation, namely the city of Jizan, in addition to the governorates of Bish, Al-Darb, and Farasan Island, noting that this weather condition will continue - God willing - until 3 pm today.
Rain of goodness covers Al-Qassim
In a related development concerning the weather conditions currently affecting the Kingdom, moderate to heavy rain fell this morning in the Qassim region. The rainfall included the city of Buraidah and several other governorates and towns within the region. The sky remains overcast, indicating the possibility of continued rainfall in the coming hours.
Geographical context and the importance of warnings
These warnings are of paramount importance given the diverse geography of the Jazan region, which combines coastal areas with mountainous highlands. During the rainy season, the region typically experiences flash floods flowing from the mountains towards the coast, necessitating caution, especially in governorates like Bish and Al-Darb, which lie along major wadi (valley) courses.
These weather fluctuations are part of the climatic characteristics of the southern and central regions of the Kingdom during this transitional period of the year, as low-pressure systems become active, contributing to the formation of rain-bearing cumulonimbus clouds.
Public safety guidelines
In conjunction with these warnings, the relevant authorities consistently emphasize the importance of adhering to public safety guidelines, which include staying away from floodplains and wadis, and avoiding the sea in coastal areas such as Farasan Island due to high waves and rough seas accompanied by strong winds. Drivers are also advised to exercise caution while driving in conditions of reduced visibility and rainfall to avoid skidding and traffic accidents.
May God make it a source of goodness and blessing, and may its benefits extend to all parts of the country.
