The General Authority for Roads, in cooperation with the National Center for Privatization, announced a new strategic step aimed at strengthening the Kingdom's road network infrastructure by prequalifying three major investment consortia to compete for the operation and maintenance of the Jeddah-Makkah Direct Road. This announcement marks a pivotal stage in the development of this vital 62-kilometer artery, which will connect Jeddah with the Holy City of Makkah to international standards.
Engineering specifications for the Jeddah-Makkah direct road
The project features advanced engineering specifications designed to accommodate increasing traffic volume. The road consists of four lanes in each direction, separated by a 16-meter-wide median strip to ensure the highest traffic safety standards. The route begins in the Al-Nuzha district of Jeddah, extending directly and rapidly to the Fourth Ring Road in Mecca. Qualified consortia aim to develop and operate modern service areas on both sides of the road, including gas stations, shopping centers, and rest areas, providing a comprehensive and comfortable travel experience for road users.
