The first flights of the Makkah Route Initiative from Brunei to Madinah have arrived

In a move reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to providing the highest quality services to pilgrims, the first flight carrying pilgrims benefiting from the Makkah Route Initiative, arriving from Brunei International Airport in Brunei Darussalam. This arrival marks the official commencement of the initiative's operations for the current Hajj season, underscoring the wise leadership's dedication to facilitating the pilgrims' journey from the moment they depart their home countries until their arrival in the Holy Land.
Historical roots and connection to Vision 2030
It is impossible to discuss modern facilities without considering the broader context and historical background from which these efforts originated. Since the launch of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, the "Guests of God Service Program" has emerged as one of the most important executive programs aimed at bringing about a qualitative shift in the Hajj and Umrah experience. In 1438 AH (2017 CE), a pioneering idea was conceived to transfer entry procedures from the Kingdom's airports to the airports of departure countries. The experiment began in a limited number of countries before gradually expanding to include several Islamic countries, becoming today a global model to be emulated in crowd management and travel facilitation.
How does the Makkah Route Initiative contribute to the comfort of pilgrims?
aims The Makkah Route Initiative to provide high-quality services to pilgrims from participating countries. These services begin with receiving pilgrims and facilitating their arrival procedures in their home countries with ease and convenience. This includes collecting biometric data and issuing Hajj visas electronically, followed by passport control at the departure airport after verifying compliance with health requirements. Additionally, luggage is coded and sorted according to transportation and accommodation arrangements within the Kingdom. Upon arrival, pilgrims are transferred directly to designated buses that transport them to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah via dedicated routes, while partner organizations handle the delivery of their luggage seamlessly.
Strategic dimensions and regional and international impact
The significance of this event extends far beyond its organizational nature, with its anticipated impact reaching local, regional, and international levels. Locally, the initiative will alleviate the operational burden on the Kingdom's airports and drastically reduce waiting times. Regionally and internationally, it will bolster the Kingdom's soft power and highlight its leading Islamic role in serving Muslims worldwide. Furthermore, the initiative reflects the advanced technological and security capabilities Saudi Arabia has achieved, strengthening bilateral cooperation with beneficiary countries such as Brunei and others, and establishing a diplomatic model built on serving humanity and facilitating the peaceful performance of religious rites.
Institutional integration to serve more than one million pilgrims
The Ministry of Interior is implementing the initiative for the eighth year in close cooperation and institutional integration with several government entities, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Hajj and Umrah, and Media, in addition to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the General Authority for Endowments, the Guests of God Service Program, and the General Directorate of Passports, in coordination with the digital partner (stc Group). These joint efforts have yielded successive successes, with the initiative having served 1,254,994 pilgrims since its launch, demonstrating its sustainability and its ability to accommodate increasing numbers year after year.
