Tarif Governorate records the lowest temperature in Saudi Arabia at 3 degrees Celsius

topped The city of Tarif, the list of countries experiencing the coldest weather in Saudi Arabia today, recording the lowest temperature across all cities and governorates, reaching only 3 degrees Celsius. This was according to the official report issued by the National Center for Meteorology, which continues to monitor the ongoing weather fluctuations affecting various regions of the Kingdom.

A truly wintry atmosphere in the province of Tarif

This drop in temperatures is not unusual for the province of Tarif, which boasts a unique geographical location in the north of the Kingdom, making it susceptible to cold air masses from the north. Historically, Tarif has been known as one of the coldest regions in Saudi Arabia during winter, with its residents accustomed to experiencing very low temperatures, sometimes reaching freezing and even below at the height of the season. This continental climate makes the province a unique example of the Kingdom's climatic diversity, always requiring special preparations by residents and relevant authorities to cope with severe cold waves.

Rainfall amounts recorded in Mecca and other regions

Coinciding with the cold weather in the north, various regions across the Kingdom experienced varying amounts of rainfall over the past 24 hours. Field reports indicate that the highest rainfall was recorded in Al-Quray' Bani Malik Center in Maysan Governorate, Makkah Region, at 13.4 mm. In contrast, Al-Uwaylah in Ranyah recorded 0.9 mm, while Ranyah and Haddad Bani Malik in Taif each recorded 0.6 mm.

Environmental and climatic importance of hydrological monitoring

The daily report from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture on rainfall monitoring indicated that 37 hydrological and climatological monitoring stations were operating efficiently to track this rainfall event, which affected the regions of Riyadh, Makkah, Qassim, the Eastern Province, Asir, and Al-Baha. This data is of paramount importance at both the local and national levels; it not only aids in weather forecasting and protects lives and property through early warnings, but also contributes to water resource management and supports the agricultural sector, which relies heavily on rainfall to replenish groundwater reserves.

The climatic contrast between the low temperatures in Tarif Governorate and the rainfall in the central and southern regions reflects the vast geographical nature of the Kingdom, and emphasizes the need to follow weather forecasts regularly to ensure everyone’s safety, whether from cold waves or from the dangers of flash floods and overflowing valleys.
