Minimum temperatures in Saudi Arabia: Dammam 9°C and Tarif 0°C

The latest reports issued by the National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia showed a noticeable variation in the minimum temperatures recorded on Thursday night and Friday morning across the Kingdom's regions, as the features of winter began to appear clearly through the decrease in temperature rates in the northern, central, and eastern regions.

According to official data, Dammam recorded a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, reflecting the relatively cold weather currently affecting the Eastern Province. This drop is part of a natural cold wave impacting the region at this time of year, prompting residents to take necessary precautions to keep their homes warm and wear appropriate winter clothing.

Details of minimum temperatures in the cities of the Kingdom

The recorded minimum temperatures in a number of cities and governorates of the Kingdom were as follows:

  • The northern region (the coldest): Tarif Governorate recorded the lowest temperature, touching zero degrees Celsius, followed by Tabuk at 1 degree Celsius, then Al-Qurayyat and Arar at 2 degrees Celsius, Sakaka at 3 degrees, and Rafha and Hail at 4 degrees Celsius.
  • Central and Eastern Region: Riyadh and Dammam recorded 9 degrees Celsius, while Buraidah and Al Majmaah recorded 5 degrees, Al Dawadmi 7 degrees, and Al Kharj and Al Ahsa 10 degrees Celsius.
  • Western and coastal region: The coastal cities maintained their moderate temperatures, with Jeddah recording 18 degrees Celsius, Yanbu and Al Wajh 12 degrees Celsius, while Makkah recorded 17 degrees Celsius and Madinah 9 degrees.
  • Southern region: The weather varied between the highlands and the plains, with Abha recording 7 degrees and Al-Soudah 3 degrees, while Jazan was the hottest among the cities recorded at 23 degrees Celsius, and Najran recorded 10 degrees.

Saudi Arabia's climatic diversity and geography

These figures reflect the great geographical and climatic diversity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. While northern regions such as Tarif and Tabuk experience harsh winter weather that approaches freezing temperatures due to their geographical location, altitude, and exposure to air masses coming from the north, coastal regions such as Jeddah, Jazan, and Al-Qunfudhah (22 degrees Celsius) enjoy warm and moderate weather thanks to the influence of the Red Sea, which moderates the climate and prevents a sharp drop in temperatures.

The importance of following weather reports

This data is of utmost importance to citizens and residents, as it helps in planning daily activities and travel on highways, especially in light of the continuous warnings of fog formation in the early morning hours and reduced horizontal visibility in areas experiencing a significant drop in temperatures and a rise in humidity levels.

During this period, experts advise following weather forecasts daily and paying attention to safe heating methods, especially in areas that have recorded temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius, in order to preserve public health and avoid seasonal colds.
