In the same vein, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent a similar congratulatory cable to His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Younis Al-Manfi, Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, on the occasion of his country's Independence Day. Libya's Independence Day: A Pivotal Historical Milestone
This gracious congratulation from the Saudi leadership coincides with Libya's celebration of its glorious Independence Day, which falls on December 24th each year. This date dates back to 1951, when King Idris al-Sanusi declared Libya's independence from the balcony of the Manar Palace in Benghazi, making it the first Arab state to gain its independence through a United Nations resolution, thus ending an era of foreign tutelage and administrative division among the three regions (Cyrenaica, Tripolitania, and Fezzan).
This day holds great symbolic significance for the Libyan people, representing the culmination of a long struggle waged by their forefathers against colonialism and reaffirming their unified national identity. The anniversary takes on added importance at present, as Libyans look to draw inspiration from the spirit of independence to overcome current political challenges and guide the country toward lasting stability and the establishment of unified state institutions.
The depth of Saudi-Libyan relations
The congratulatory messages from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince reflect the depth of the historical relations and strong fraternal ties that bind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Libya. The Kingdom has consistently stood in support of Libya's stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, calling in various international and regional forums for prioritizing dialogue and national reconciliation, thus ensuring that the brotherly Libyan people can live in security and prosperity, free from foreign interference that obstructs the political solution.
