Trump will participate in the Davos forum next week with a large US delegation

Next week, all eyes will be on the Swiss resort of Davos, where organizers of the World Economic Forum have announced that US President Donald Trump will participate in the forum's annual meeting, a move with profound political and economic implications, especially given his confirmed participation with the largest delegation in the history of US participation.

American momentum returns to Davos

World Economic Forum President Børge Brende confirmed at a press conference that President Trump will personally attend the forum, which is being held in the Swiss Alps. Brende said, “We are delighted to welcome President Trump back, who will be accompanied by the largest U.S. delegation ever to participate in the forum.”.

This in-person participation comes after the US president participated virtually in 2025, shortly after being sworn in for his second term. Next week's visit marks his first physical return to the forum since his last participation in 2020 during his first term, signaling the US administration's desire to reshape the international cooperation agenda according to its economic vision.

Intense international presence amid geopolitical challenges

The significance of this year's summit lies not only in the American presence but also in the high-level Chinese participation, which represents a balance of power. Organizers indicated that China, the world's second-largest economy, will send a strong delegation headed by the Vice Premier, opening the door to vital discussions about the future of global trade and relations between the two superpowers.

Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to attend, along with six other G7 heads of state and government, reflecting the forum's importance as a platform for political, not just economic, decision-making. Prominent European figures, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, will also participate to discuss monetary and fiscal policies in the Eurozone.

“The Spirit of Dialogue”: A rich history and renewed goals

This year's forum, themed "The Spirit of Dialogue," will take place from Monday, January 19 to Friday, January 23. The theme aims to foster international understanding at a time of deep divisions in the world.

Founded in 1971, the Davos Forum derives its significance from bringing together the world's elite in one place; for a week, the tranquil winter resort transforms into a hub for international decision-making. This year's forum is expected to draw some 64 heads of state and government, along with 850 business leaders and CEOs of major global companies, to discuss issues of climate, technology, and sustainable economic growth.
