The Division 3 details and the future of the series: everything we know so far

During an exclusive interview at New Game+, Julian Gerety, executive producer of the popular shooting game series, confirmed a number of important and exciting details that outline the future of The Division series, sparking excitement among video game fans around the world.
A huge and ambitious project
Gerety definitively confirmed that The Division 3 has entered the production and development phase, describing the project as "huge and extremely ambitious." This confirmation comes as a welcome relief to fans after a period of anticipation, especially since the game's initial announcement was made in 2023. While details of the story and the time period remain shrouded in secrecy, Gerety's return to full focus on this project after completing work on Star Wars Outlaws in 2024 is a positive sign that the pace of development is accelerating.
A rich history and a distinguished position
To fully understand the significance of this announcement, we must return to the roots of the series, which launched in 2016 under the umbrella of stories by the late author Tom Clancy. The game offered a revolutionary experience that blended elements of role-playing games (RPGs) and tactical shooting, leveraging the capabilities of the Snowdrop engine, which delivered stunning graphics of a New York City ravaged by the Green Poison virus. The Division 2: Survivors on a complete redesign of the Washington, D.C. map, transforming it into a harsh winter environment blanketed in snowstorms. This move comes in response to player requests for the distinctive winter atmosphere of the first game, and the change will offer a radically different gameplay experience requiring new survival strategies.
The team, led by creative director Magnus Janssen, known for overseeing the popular Survival mode in the first installment, aims to improve the game's "quality of life" elements, such as developing control systems and increasing map clarity, to ensure a smooth experience for both new and veteran players.
Expanding towards smartphones
As for expanding across platforms, The Division: Resurgence a significant strategic step in bringing the series' experience to smartphones. For the first time, the game will allow players to form squads and explore a vast open world on mobile, while maintaining the series' high-quality graphics and tactical gameplay.
