Talented female students from the Kingdom participating in the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad

The world's attention is focused on the French Republic, specifically the city of Bordeaux, where four Saudi female students are preparing to represent their country in the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO). This prestigious scientific competition will take place from April 9th to 15th, and this participation is part of the ongoing efforts of the Mawhiba International Olympiads Program, which consistently strives to establish a clear and impactful Saudi presence on the global stage.
History and launch of the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad
is The European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) one of the most prestigious annual international competitions open to secondary school girls. The history of this prominent scientific event dates back to 2012, when the first edition was held at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. The idea for this competition arose from the urgent need to encourage girls to engage more deeply in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The competition primarily aims to motivate students to participate in complex mathematical challenges, break down barriers that might hinder the development of their talents, and enhance their scientific presence at both the national and international levels.
The strategic importance and expected impact of Saudi participation
The participation of talented Saudi women in this edition carries significant weight, extending far beyond mere academic competition. Locally, this initiative inspires thousands of Saudi girls to explore their passion for mathematics and science, aligning closely with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes empowering women and youth and building a globally competitive knowledge-based society. Regionally and internationally, the Saudi presence demonstrates the effectiveness of the Kingdom's curricula and scientific development programs. Saudi Arabia has maintained a distinguished presence in this competition since its inception, participating in 13 previous editions and winning 36 international awards, including two gold medals, seven silver medals, and 15 bronze medals, in addition to 12 certificates of merit, establishing itself as a leading scientific force in the region.
Mawhiba's efforts and preparation of the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad champions
These achievements and participations are a continuation of the tremendous efforts exerted by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba,” in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education. Students are prepared and qualified for international scientific competitions through a series of intensive training programs and specialized camps supervised by a select group of local and international experts. These camps contribute to developing advanced mathematical thinking skills and honing the students' abilities to solve complex problems. This year's Saudi team includes four outstanding high school students: Tala Faisal and Fatima Hassan Al-Marhoon from the Eastern Province Education Department, Al-Batoul Osama Al-Aidaroos from the Yanbu Education Department, and Lana Yahya Nouri from the Jeddah Education Department. These students represent a shining example of the minds that represent the nation and strive to raise its flag high in the realm of scientific innovation.
