Humanization and development projects to enhance services for pilgrims in Taif

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced that the Taif Governorate Municipality has successfully completed a series of urban development and improvement projects in several key locations and areas. This strategic step aims to enhance the services provided to pilgrims in Taif, as part of ongoing efforts to improve operational readiness and the overall experience for pilgrims and visitors during the 1447 AH Hajj season. This reflects the wise leadership's commitment to providing the utmost comfort and peace of mind to those visiting the Holy Mosque.
Taif: The historical gateway for pilgrims and Umrah performers
Taif Governorate has long been one of the most important gateways for pilgrims and Umrah performers coming from the eastern and southern regions of the Kingdom, as well as from the Gulf countries and neighboring states. Historically, Taif has been closely linked to the Hajj pilgrimage due to its strategic geographical location and its hosting of two of the most important designated points for entering the state of Ihram. This rich historical legacy has made the development of its infrastructure a top priority to ensure the smooth flow of crowds and provide a comprehensive urban environment that meets the needs of travelers before they proceed to Mecca.
Developing timetables and vital axes
Recent projects have included the development and improvement of four key sites, including the Miqat of Wadi Mahram and Qarn al-Manazil, which experience high traffic during Hajj and Umrah seasons. In addition, several vital roads within the governorate have been upgraded, most notably Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Street and Shihar Street. These improvements directly contribute to enhancing the urban landscape and increasing the efficiency of municipal services in high-traffic areas, thus facilitating the movement of both vehicles and pedestrians.
The strategic impact of enhancing services for pilgrims in Taif
Investing in development projects has far-reaching implications beyond mere aesthetics, extending to broad economic and social dimensions. Locally, these projects contribute to revitalizing the economy in Taif and creating an attractive environment for tourists and visitors. Regionally and internationally, the success of serving pilgrims in Taif reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to achieving the goals of Vision 2030, specifically the "Pilgrims Service Program," which aims to transform the Hajj and Umrah experience from concept to lasting memory, presenting a distinguished image of the Kingdom's urban and service development to the world.
Improving infrastructure and road quality
As part of these efforts, the municipality implemented comprehensive development works that included improving more than 4.3 kilometers of roads and creating over 16,000 square meters of sidewalks and plazas. To ensure inclusive services, more than 3.8 kilometers of pedestrian paths were made accessible for the blind, the elderly, and people with disabilities, enhancing ease of movement and raising the level of safety and comfort for all visitors without exception.
Promoting vegetation cover and environmental sustainability
In line with the Saudi Green Initiative, the projects included the creation of over 4,600 square meters of green spaces and the planting of more than 3,500 trees and shrubs. This step is part of efforts to improve the urban landscape and enhance the quality of the urban environment in targeted areas and locations, providing a natural respite for pilgrims and contributing to a more pleasant climate.
Quality of paths and public facilities
The fieldwork included laying over 4,800 square meters of basalt stone paving to reduce temperatures and improve the quality of pathways and plazas. In addition, more than 200 public facilities and services were upgraded to preserve the urban environment and enhance municipal services. The municipality also worked to improve safety and comfort by installing over 900 ground lighting units and more than 200 light fixtures, as well as providing over 300 parking spaces and more than 200 seats for visitors. These integrated projects demonstrate the readiness of the municipal and housing authorities to provide the highest quality services during the Hajj season.
