Classes will be suspended in Jeddah, Rabigh, and Khulais tomorrow due to the weather

The General Directorate of Education in Jeddah Governorate officially announced the suspension of in-person classes for tomorrow, Tuesday, June 18, 1447 AH (corresponding to June 18, 2026), and their conversion to distance learning via the "My School" platform. This decision includes all schools in Jeddah Governorate, as well as the governorates of Rabigh and Khulais, and applies to all students and members of the teaching and administrative staff.
Details of the decision to suspend studies
The Jeddah Education Department explained via its official account on the social media platform “X” that this precautionary measure was taken based on technical and warning reports received from the National Center for Meteorology, indicating the continuation of the rainy weather and unstable conditions. This decision stems from the relevant authorities' commitment to the safety of students and all staff working in the educational field, and to protecting them from potential risks resulting from the weather fluctuations.
Digital transformation and the continuity of education in Saudi Arabia
This swift and flexible approach is clear evidence of Saudi Arabia's success in building a robust digital infrastructure in the education sector, a key achievement of Vision 2030. Suspending in-person classes no longer means halting the educational process, as was the case in previous decades. The "My School" platform has become a leading national model, ensuring the continuity of education without interruption under all circumstances, whether health-related or climatic. This transformation reflects the Ministry of Education's high level of preparedness in crisis management and its ability to respond to unforeseen changes with exceptional flexibility.
Government decision-making and coordination mechanism
Decisions to suspend classes are subject to a precise mechanism based on direct and continuous coordination between the Ministry of Education, the National Center for Meteorology, and the General Directorate of Civil Defense. Weather conditions are assessed using an "early warning system," where advanced alerts (such as red or orange) necessitate immediate precautionary measures. This integration among government sectors primarily aims to protect lives and property and alleviate traffic congestion on roads during heavy rainfall, thus facilitating the movement of emergency teams and service providers.
Weather forecast and affected areas
In a related development, the National Center for Meteorology issued its reports forecasting thunderstorms of varying intensity, potentially accompanied by strong winds and hail, continuing until next Thursday. The impact of this weather system is not limited to Jeddah but extends to large areas of the Kingdom, including: Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, Madinah, Tabuk, Hail, Qassim, Jazan, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province. Authorities urge everyone to exercise caution, stay away from floodplains and valleys, and adhere to Civil Defense instructions during this period.
