Classes will be suspended in Jeddah, Rabigh, and Khulais tomorrow due to the weather

The Jeddah Education Department has officially announced the suspension of in-person classes and their transition to remote learning via the "My School" platform, effective tomorrow, Tuesday, June 18, 1447 AH. This decision includes all schools in Jeddah Governorate, as well as Rabigh and Khulais Governorates, and applies to all students, school staff, and education office personnel.
Reasons for suspending studies in Jeddah
The administration explained in its statement that this precautionary measure came based on reports received from the National Center for Meteorology, and out of concern for everyone’s safety in light of the weather fluctuations and the chances of rain that may impede traffic and pose a danger to students during their commute.
The Jeddah Education Department confirmed that the educational process will continue without interruption according to the approved study plans, as classes will be delivered virtually through electronic classrooms on the Madrasati platform, calling on students, parents and school staff to adhere to the instructions and follow the official channels to get the latest updates.
Digital transformation and the continuity of education
This decision comes within the context of the qualitative transformation witnessed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the education sector, where the suspension of in-person classes no longer means a halt to academic achievement as was the case in previous years. The "My School" platform has become a successful strategic option that ensures the continuation of the educational journey under various circumstances, whether health-related or climatic. This measure reflects the high level of readiness of the Ministry of Education's digital infrastructure, which aims to prevent the loss of any school day and maintain the curriculum schedule.
Weather forecast and meteorological conditions
For its part, the National Center for Meteorology had issued advanced warnings and forecasts indicating varying intensities of thunderstorms across most regions of the Kingdom, continuing until next Thursday. The rainy weather includes wide areas such as Mecca, Medina, Asir, Al-Baha, Tabuk, Hail, Qassim, Jazan, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province.
Weather forecasts indicate that this weather pattern may be accompanied by increased surface wind activity and reduced horizontal visibility, necessitating caution. Jeddah and its surrounding coastal areas are among those most directly affected by these fluctuations, making the decision to reschedule classes a necessary measure to ensure the safety of lives and property, and to alleviate traffic congestion, allowing authorities to address any water accumulation.
The importance of adhering to safety instructions
In such weather conditions, various government agencies, including Civil Defense, the Ministry of Education, and the Meteorology Department, work together to guide the public toward safe practices. It is always advised to stay away from floodplains and wadis, avoid crossing waterlogged areas, and continuously monitor the color-coded warnings issued by the early warning system.
