Ways to issue a stamp for the founding day: a symbol of Saudi Arabia's rich history

In a move aimed at commemorating pivotal historical moments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's journey, the Saudi Post Corporation (Sabil), in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, announced the issuance of a new commemorative postage stamp with a face value of three (3) riyals, in celebration of the anniversary of the Kingdom's founding. This issue marks the anniversary of the establishment of the first Saudi state by Imam Muhammad bin Saud (may God have mercy on him) in 1727 AD, which represents the starting point of a historical journey spanning nearly three centuries.
Historical context and the importance of the founding day
Saudis celebrate their National Day on February 22nd each year, a date that symbolizes the Kingdom's deep historical and cultural roots. This day was officially designated a national holiday by royal decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in January 2022. The date commemorates the moment when Imam Muhammad bin Saud assumed rule of Diriyah, establishing a stable political entity in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula. He laid the foundations for security, unity, and development, and Diriyah became his capital and a beacon of knowledge and culture.
The importance of the publication and its cultural impact
This commemorative stamp is more than just a postal tool; it serves as a traveling cultural ambassador, telling the story of a nation. Issuing commemorative stamps by “Subul” is part of its strategy to document key national milestones and significant events. These stamps form a rich visual record, preserving for future generations the milestones of their glorious history. This issue reflects the Kingdom’s pride in its deep-rooted heritage and affirms the solid foundations upon which the Saudi state was built, foundations that have contributed to consolidating stability and continuing the path of development up to the prosperous era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect them.
Local and international impact
Domestically, the new stamp enhances national awareness among citizens and residents, especially the youth, of their country's rich history. It also represents a valuable art piece for stamp collectors within the Kingdom, who are keen to acquire these issues that hold significant historical and symbolic value. Internationally, the stamp contributes to raising awareness of Saudi Arabia's history worldwide, offering a glimpse into its authentic heritage and reaching global stamp collectors and cultural institutions, serving as a microcosm of a nation's history and enduring civilization.
