Somalia affirms the pivotal role of Saudi Arabia in the stability of Yemen and the region
The Federal Republic of Somalia reaffirmed its unwavering and principled support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen, emphasizing its categorical rejection of any foreign interference or attempts to destabilize Yemen or undermine its constitutional legitimacy and national institutions. This reaffirmation reflects the depth of the historical and strategic relations that bind the two brotherly countries, which overlook vital waterways.
Supporting legitimacy and political solutions
In an official statement, the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its full support for the legitimate Yemeni government, based on Mogadishu's firm belief that peaceful political solutions and national dialogue among Yemenis themselves are the only way to end the crisis. The statement emphasized that restoring state institutions and preserving sovereignty is the only guarantee for fulfilling the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people to live in security and stability and achieve sustainable development, which has been disrupted for years by the conflict.
Saudi Arabia's pivotal role: politically and humanely
In a related context, Somalia commended the leading and pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the security and stability of Yemen and the Arab region as a whole. The statement praised Riyadh's ongoing diplomatic and political efforts to bring together the Yemeni parties and advance the peace process, as well as its initiatives aimed at ending the crisis in accordance with the three internationally and regionally agreed-upon frameworks.
The Saudi role is not limited to the political aspect, but extends to include the major humanitarian aspect, as the Kingdom continues to provide relief and development assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s fraternal and humanitarian commitment towards its neighbors.
Red Sea and Horn of Africa security
The statement addressed the strategic dimension of the crisis, with Somalia emphasizing that the security and stability of Yemen are essential pillars for maritime security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as well as for the stability of the Horn of Africa region. Given their geographical proximity, any threat to Yemen directly impacts neighboring countries and international waterways.
Somalia also expressed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its efforts to enhance regional security, reiterating its rejection of any threats to the Kingdom’s security or targeting international maritime navigation, while praising the efforts of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in protecting Yemeni state institutions.
The Somali Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by calling on the international community to intensify its efforts to support a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement process, which would restore Yemen to its natural and active role in its Arab and regional environment, and ensure international peace and security.
