The Speaker of the Shura Council discusses parliamentary cooperation with the Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament

The Speaker of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, held an expanded official meeting today with the Speaker of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Maldives, Abdulrahim Abdullah, at the Council's headquarters in Riyadh. These talks are part of the Maldivian delegation's official visit to the Kingdom, which aims to strengthen cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

At the start of the session, Dr. Al-Sheikh welcomed his Maldivian counterpart and the accompanying delegation, highlighting the unprecedented development renaissance that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing under Vision 2030, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister – may God protect them both. He emphasized that these developmental transformations open up broad horizons for international partnerships and enhance the Kingdom's position as a global political and economic powerhouse.

The discussions addressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as an effective tool for bridging viewpoints and supporting political and economic decisions that serve the interests of both nations. This meeting underscores the deep historical ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Maldives, with the Kingdom being a strategic partner of the Maldives in numerous development and infrastructure projects, in addition to the strong Islamic bonds that unite the two countries.

For his part, the Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament expressed his deep gratitude for the warm welcome, praising the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leading role in supporting the causes of the Islamic world and its continued support for the Republic of Maldives in various crises and circumstances. He particularly commended the outstanding services and advanced facilities provided by the Kingdom to pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah, which reflect the Saudi leadership's commitment to serving Islam and Muslims.

The session explored ways to activate the role of parliamentary friendship committees between the Shura Council and the Maldivian People's Assembly, with the aim of exchanging legislative expertise and coordinating positions in international and regional parliamentary forums. Several issues of mutual interest were also reviewed, along with promising opportunities to enhance economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The Saudi delegation included Deputy Speaker Dr. Meshal Al-Sulami, Assistant Speaker Dr. Hanan Al-Ahmadi, and Secretary General Mohammed Al-Mutairi, in addition to the Chairman of the Saudi-Maldivian Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Abdulrahman Al-Harbi, and several other members of parliament. The Maldivian delegation included several members of parliament, the Secretary General of parliament, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom.
