The Shura Council refers 17 topics to upcoming sessions, including university reports

The General Assembly of the Shura Council held its eleventh meeting today, as part of the second year of its ninth session, at the Council's headquarters in Riyadh. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency the Vice President of the Council, Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Sulami, and attended by Her Excellency the Assistant President of the Council, Dr. Hanan bint Abdulrahim Al-Ahmadi, His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Council, Mr. Mohammed bin Dakhel Al-Mutairi, and the heads of the Council's specialized committees.

During the meeting, the board reviewed its agenda in detail, approving the referral of (17) diverse topics to the agenda of the upcoming general council sessions. These topics included several annual performance reports of governmental and academic institutions, most notably the reports of Umm Al-Qura University, Jazan University, King Abdulaziz University, and Northern Border University for the academic year (2024), reflecting the council's oversight role regarding the performance of educational institutions.

In the context of international relations and joint cooperation, the Authority referred several draft agreements and memoranda of understanding to the Council for discussion. These agreements covered vital areas such as the economy, air transport services, and energy, in addition to the exchange of information in the fields of infrastructure and construction with a number of sister and friendly countries, in preparation for the Council's formal review.

This step comes as part of the pivotal role played by the General Authority of the Shura Council in organizing the Council's work and prioritizing its agenda, serving as a key link between the specialized committees and the Council's plenary sessions. Reviewing universities' annual reports is a necessary step to ensure the quality of educational outcomes and their alignment with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, as well as to verify the efficiency of spending and governance within these academic institutions.

On the economic and political front, the referral of international agreements is of paramount importance, as the Shura Council serves as a legislative and oversight body that formalizes treaties before their ratification. Agreements in the energy, transportation, and infrastructure sectors contribute to strengthening the Kingdom's position as a global logistics and economic hub, and support the strategic partnerships the Kingdom establishes with various countries worldwide to promote sustainable development.
