Weather in Saudi Arabia: Temperatures, Dust and Fog Warnings

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued weather for Saturday, revealing significant variations in weather phenomena affecting different regions of the Kingdom. The report indicates atmospheric instability characterized by active surface winds stirring up dust and sand, along with fog formation and a drop in temperatures in other areas.

Weather details in the regions

According to the center's data, large parts of the Kingdom are experiencing weather fluctuations that warrant attention. In the central region , specifically in the capital Riyadh and Qassim, dusty conditions prevail due to active winds that may reduce horizontal visibility, with Riyadh recording a high of 25 degrees Celsius.

In the western region , Mecca continues to record relatively warm temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius with clear skies, while Medina is experiencing wind activity and raised dust.

In the Eastern Province and the Northern Borders, fog was the most prominent feature, as the center warned of low visibility in Dammam, Al-Qurayyat, and Tarif, with very low temperatures recorded in the north that approached freezing (1 degree Celsius in Tarif).

Geographical and climatic context

These weather fluctuations are part of the climatic nature of Saudi Arabia, which is characterized by its diverse terrain and vast geographical area. This diversity often leads to different atmospheric pressure systems affecting different regions simultaneously. While coastal areas experience high humidity, resulting in morning fog, inland and open areas face active winds that stir up dust and sand, especially during transitional periods and the winter season.

The importance and impact of warnings

The bulletins issued by the National Center for Meteorology are of paramount importance for the safety of citizens and residents, as these phenomena directly affect daily life:

  • Traffic safety: Fog and dust storms cause a sharp decrease in horizontal visibility, requiring extreme caution when driving on highways connecting the governorates.
  • Public health: Dusty conditions may negatively affect respiratory and asthma patients, requiring preventive measures and avoiding direct exposure to dust.
