SDAIA calls for participation in developing the artificial intelligence framework

The Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has invited individuals, government and private entities, and the non-profit sector to submit their views and suggestions on the “Responsible AI Policy” project. This strategic step is being taken through the unified electronic platform for public and government consultations, “Istilaa,” with the aim of engaging all segments of society in developing framework for artificial intelligence . Through this initiative, the Kingdom seeks to build an advanced technological environment that ensures the safe and ethical use of modern technologies.
The Kingdom's journey towards technological leadership and establishing an artificial intelligence framework
The Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) was established in 2019 to serve as the national authority on all matters related to data and advanced technologies. Since then, SDAIA has spearheaded concerted efforts to realize the aspirations of Saudi Vision 2030, which places digital transformation and technological innovation at the heart of its strategic objectives. The move towards formulating technology policies was not a sudden development, but rather the culmination of a series of national initiatives, such as the launch of the National Strategy for Data and Artificial Intelligence and the organization of the Global AI Summit in its various editions, which brought together thought leaders and decision-makers from around the world in Riyadh. These accumulated efforts paved the way for the necessity of establishing clear policies to regulate this vital and rapidly growing sector.
Strategic dimensions of regulating artificial intelligence technologies
This collaborative approach aims to enhance stakeholder and expert input in decision-making regarding the regulation of artificial intelligence. Establishing robust legislation directly contributes to regulating the use of these technologies across their various applications, creating a delicate balance between fostering innovation and responsible adoption. Domestically, this project will bolster investor and public confidence in intelligent systems, while ensuring the protection of individuals and society and mitigating potential risks such as bias or privacy violations.
The impact of the new policies regionally and internationally
The impact of this regulatory project extends beyond Saudi Arabia, positioning the Kingdom among the world's leading nations in governing emerging technologies. Regionally, this approach serves as a model for Middle Eastern countries seeking to safely adopt artificial intelligence technologies. Internationally, the Kingdom's commitment to developing responsible policies aligned with global guidelines reinforces its standing as a trusted partner in shaping the future of the global digital economy.
Key features of a responsible AI policy project
The policy project presented through the “Istilaa” platform aims to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the Kingdom by establishing a comprehensive framework that balances enabling innovation with strengthening governance. This will contribute to raising trust in AI systems and ensuring their safe and responsible use. The project focuses on mitigating potential risks through a proactive approach based on continuous assessment and effective response. It also clarifies the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders throughout the AI lifecycle, thereby enhancing compliance and coordination among government entities, the private sector, and non-profit organizations, and supporting the achievement of national development goals in this field.
