Saudi Arabia weather today: Heavy rain and strong winds in Al-Baha and Hail

The National Center for Meteorology issued urgent alerts regarding today's weather fluctuations in Saudi Arabia, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in the Al-Baha and Hail regions. These reports come at a time when some areas of the Kingdom are experiencing rapid weather changes leading to reduced horizontal visibility and flash floods in valleys, urging everyone to follow safety guidelines and stay away from valleys and ravines.

Weather details and warnings in the Al-Baha region

The National Center for Meteorology explained that the Al-Baha region is experiencing moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds, near-zero horizontal visibility, flash floods, hail, and thunderstorms. This weather pattern includes the city of Al-Baha and the governorates of Al-Qura, Al-Mandaq, Baljurashi, Bani Hassan, Al-Aqiq, and surrounding areas. The center indicated that this weather pattern is expected to continue, God willing, until 7:00 PM.

In a related context, another warning was issued about light rain accompanied by active winds, a decrease in horizontal visibility, and thunderstorms in the governorates of Al-Makhwah, Qalwah, Al-Hajrah, Ghamid Al-Zanad, and the parts adjacent to them. This condition will also continue until seven o'clock in the evening.

Heavy rains and strong winds hit the Hail region

On the other hand, the National Center for Meteorology warned of heavy rainfall in the Hail region, accompanied by strong winds, flash floods, and thunderstorms. This weather condition will affect open areas and highways, leading to a sharp decrease in horizontal visibility. The center indicated that the weather conditions in Hail are expected to continue, God willing, until 6:00 PM.

Geography and climate: Reasons for the ongoing fluctuations in Saudi Arabia's weather today

The diverse topography of Saudi Arabia plays a key role in shaping its varied weather patterns. The Al-Baha region, located in the southwest of the Kingdom with its high elevations within the Sarawat Mountains, provides a fertile environment for the formation of cumulonimbus clouds due to the rising of moist winds from the Red Sea and their collision with the mountainous terrain.

As for the Hail region, which is located in northern Najd, it is affected by dynamic air depressions coming from the Mediterranean Sea and the northern region, which meet with warm and humid air masses coming from the south, resulting in severe atmospheric instability that leads to heavy rainfall accompanied by hail and strong downdrafts.

Expected impacts and Civil Defense guidelines for public safety

The importance of these weather alerts extends beyond the immediate local level, impacting land transport and economic and agricultural activities in both regions. While heavy rainfall contributes to replenishing groundwater reserves and supporting vegetation and natural pastures, it also poses a direct threat to public safety if instructions are not followed.

The General Directorate of Civil Defense urged citizens and residents to exercise caution, stay away from valleys and flood channels, and avoid crossing them under any circumstances. It also stressed the importance of regularly monitoring weather reports issued by the National Center for Meteorology and strictly adhering to the instructions of security and service authorities to ensure the safety of lives and property.
