Saudi Arabia weather today: Rain in Mecca, fog in the Eastern Province, and weather warnings issued

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued weather for Tuesday, revealing the continuation of unstable weather conditions affecting several vital regions of the Kingdom. This report is part of the ongoing monitoring of weather changes. The Center warned of continued light rain in scattered parts of the Makkah region, coinciding with reduced horizontal visibility in the Eastern Province due to fog.
Rainfall and weather phenomena map for Mecca
According to the Early Warning System, the rainy weather currently affecting the Makkah region will continue until 9:00 AM on Tuesday. The report specifically identified the affected areas, including the Holy City of Makkah, Al-Lith Governorate, Al-Jumum, Al-Kamil, Ash-Shuaiba, Bahrah, and Khulais. In addition to rainfall, the center warned of significant surface wind activity that could stir up dust and sand in open areas, reducing horizontal visibility. Thunderstorms are also possible, necessitating extreme caution from drivers on highways.
Dense fog and its impact on the eastern region
On the other side of the Kingdom, specifically in the Eastern Province, light to moderate fog prevailed during the early morning hours, reducing horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers. Warnings were issued for major cities and governorates, including Jubail, Khobar, Dammam, Dhahran, Qatif, Ras Tanura, and the Al-Udayd area. This phenomenon is attributed to high relative humidity levels originating from the Arabian Gulf, coupled with low minimum temperatures, creating ideal conditions for the formation of radiation fog, which is common in coastal areas during this time of year.
The geographical and climatic context of the Kingdom
These weather fluctuations are particularly significant given the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's vast geographical diversity. The Makkah region, with its topography combining coastal plains and the Sarawat Mountains, is often affected by humid air currents from the Red Sea, contributing to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and rain. In contrast, the Eastern Province is subject to different climatic influences due to its location on the Arabian Gulf, making it prone to fog and high humidity. Understanding these geographical contexts helps residents and service providers adapt to anticipated weather conditions.
Government safety and preparedness guidelines
In light of these forecasts, the General Directorate of Civil Defense and relevant security authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to safety instructions, particularly avoiding valleys and flood channels during rainfall in the western regions, and exercising caution while driving in foggy conditions in the eastern region. The current accuracy of weather monitoring reflects the significant technological advancements in the Kingdom's meteorology sector, with the National Center relying on state-of-the-art radar and satellite imagery to provide real-time forecasts that contribute to protecting lives and property and enhancing quality of life.
