Saudi Arabia's weather today, Sunday: Lower temperatures, frost, and fog

The National Center for Meteorology issued its detailed daily report on the expected weather conditions on Sunday in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the center warned of significant weather fluctuations characterized by a noticeable drop in temperatures, and the formation of frost and fog, which calls for caution and vigilance on the part of citizens and residents.

Weather details and affected areas

According to the meteorological statement , the cold wave will continue to affect the region, accompanied by active winds that will increase the feeling of cold. This condition is particularly concentrated in the northern regions of the Kingdom, including Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders . The impact of the cold air mass is not limited to the north, but extends to include large parts of Hail, Al-Qassim, Riyadh , and even the Eastern Province .

The meteorological department also warned of a high probability of fog formation during the night and early morning hours in parts of these areas, which could reduce horizontal visibility. In a related matter, frost formation is also possible, a common winter phenomenon at this time of year in open desert areas and highlands, particularly in the north of the Kingdom.

Climate context and weather effects

These weather fluctuations are part of the climatic features of winter in Saudi Arabia, where the country is usually affected by Siberian high-pressure systems or polar air masses that lead to a sharp drop in temperatures, especially in the northern and central regions, which are characterized by their open desert nature and the rapid loss of heat from the ground at night.

This weather condition is expected to affect land transportation and travel, as drivers on highways linking regions must exercise extreme caution due to active winds stirring up dust and sand, which forecasts indicate will directly affect parts of the Makkah and Madinah , in addition to the risks of slipping or lack of visibility due to fog in the northern and eastern regions.

Sea conditions and navigation

Regarding maritime navigation, the center detailed the conditions of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, warning fishermen and sea-goers of high waves and rough seas in some areas:
