Saudi Arabia weather: Rain and cold wave as schools reopen

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly the Eastern Province, is experiencing unstable weather conditions coinciding with the start of the second semester. A combination of climatic factors is creating a distinctly wintry atmosphere. These weather fluctuations are typical for this time of year, as the Arabian Peninsula is affected by cold air masses and low-pressure systems that contribute to temperature changes and increased wind activity.
Weather details and forecasts
The National Center for Meteorology explained in its report that the Eastern Province and several other regions of the Kingdom will experience various weather fluctuations, ranging from a noticeable drop in temperatures, especially during the night and early morning hours, to scattered rainfall. The center indicated that the weather will be significantly colder in the Al-Jawf, Northern Borders, Tabuk, Hail, and Al-Qassim regions, and this drop in temperature will extend to the northern parts of the Riyadh and Eastern Provinces, starting from Tuesday until Thursday.
Rainfall and active wind map
Regarding rainfall, the center indicated a chance of scattered showers on Sunday and Monday in parts of Al-Jawf, Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province. Rain is also expected to continue over the mountainous regions of Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan until the end of the week, bringing rainy winter weather that may contribute to the flow of some valleys and streams.
In addition, the meteorological department warned of active surface winds stirring up dust and sand, which may reduce horizontal visibility during daylight hours across wide areas including Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, Hail, Makkah, Madinah, Al-Qassim, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province. The effects of these winds are expected to extend on Thursday and Friday to include the southern parts of the Riyadh and Eastern Provinces and the Najran region.
The importance of preparing for weather fluctuations
These forecasts are particularly important given their timing with the return of students to school, necessitating caution from parents and drivers when traveling in the early morning hours, especially in areas experiencing fog or heavy dust. Following official weather reports is essential for public safety, as climate change plays a significant role in shaping daily life during the winter season in the Kingdom.
The National Center of Meteorology called on everyone to follow the latest developments related to the weather situation through its official website and social media accounts, in addition to taking advantage of the services of the “Anwaa” application, to ensure access to accurate and up-to-date information.
