Saudi Arabia weather today: Rain in Qassim and Riyadh, and weather warnings issued

Saudi Arabia is experiencing unstable weather conditions today, Sunday, with the National Center for Meteorology issuing a series of alerts and warnings for wide areas, most notably the Qassim region and the northern parts of the Riyadh region. These weather fluctuations are part of the seasonal changes that the Arabian Peninsula experiences, which are often characterized by rapid shifts in weather patterns.

Weather details in Al-Qassim

According to the National Center of Meteorology, the weather system began to have a noticeable impact early this morning, specifically at 10:00 AM, and is expected to continue until the early evening. This system is characterized by light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, as well as active surface winds that may stir up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility in open areas and on highways.

The affected areas in Al-Qassim region encompass a wide geographical area, including the administrative capital, Buraydah, and the governorates of Unayzah, Ar-Rass, Al-Bukayriyah, Al-Mudhnib, Al-Badai, Al-Asyah, and Uyun Al-Jawa. Warnings also extend to the western and southern governorates such as An-Nabhaniah, Riyadh Al-Khabra, Dhariyah, Uqlat As-Suqur, Abanat, and Al-Qawarah.

Weather in northern Riyadh and sea conditions

The rain was not limited to Al-Qassim region; thunderstorms also extended to cover the northern parts of the Riyadh region. The meteorological department warned residents of Al-Zulfi, Al-Majma'ah, Al-Ghat, and Shaqra governorates to exercise caution due to the possibility of vehicles skidding and reduced visibility.

Regarding maritime navigation, the Red Sea is experiencing severe turbulence, with surface winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour, causing waves to exceed 2.5 meters, particularly with the formation of thunderstorms. In contrast, the Arabian Gulf appears more stable, with waves ranging between half a meter and one and a half meters, accompanied by moderate winds.

The importance of follow-up and safety guidelines

These warnings are particularly important given the region's geography; the Qassim region is considered the Kingdom's breadbasket, and weather fluctuations directly impact agricultural activities and the heavy land transport that connects the central region with the north and west of the Kingdom. These rains, though light, are part of the climatic system that contributes to replenishing groundwater and vegetation.

Weather experts and relevant authorities are calling on citizens and residents to adhere to public safety guidelines, which include staying away from flood channels and valleys in case of heavy rain, exercising caution while driving in downdrafts and dust, and following official weather bulletins regularly to avoid any potential risks.
