Today's weather in Saudi Arabia: Thunderstorms, fog, and winds

The National Center for Meteorology, revealed details of 's weather conditions across various regions of Saudi Arabia, noting the continuation of the weather fluctuations characteristic of this time of year. The center predicted a chance of thunderstorms accompanied by active winds that will reduce horizontal visibility in parts of the Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions, extending to the highlands of Makkah and Madinah.
These forecasts come in the context of the Kingdom’s climatic and geographical diversity, where the southern regions and western highlands are affected by low-pressure systems and humid currents that contribute to seasonal rainfall, which enhances water reserves and supports vegetation cover in those important agricultural and tourist areas.
Fog and reduced horizontal visibility
In another part of the report, the meteorological department warned of the possibility of fog formation during the night and early morning hours, leading to reduced horizontal visibility. This phenomenon is expected to affect parts of the regions experiencing rainfall, as well as large areas of Riyadh, the Eastern Province, the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, and Tabuk. Weather experts and relevant authorities urge drivers to exercise caution while driving in these conditions to ensure public safety.
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding the marine conditions, the report described the wind patterns and wave conditions as follows:
- Red Sea: Surface winds are shifting from northwesterly to northerly at speeds of 10-32 km/h in the northern and central parts, while in the south they are southeasterly to easterly at speeds of 20-40 km/h, potentially reaching 50 km/h towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Wave heights range from half a meter to two meters, and may exceed two meters in the southern part, resulting in moderate to rough sea conditions.
- Arabian Gulf: Surface winds will be southwesterly to southerly in the north, and northwesterly to northerly in the central and southern parts at a speed of 10-30 km/h, with wave heights ranging from half a meter to one meter, and the sea state will be slight.
This accurate data provided by the National Center for Meteorology reflects the importance of continuous monitoring of weather forecasts, especially for fishermen and seafarers, as well as for travelers on the highways that connect the far-flung regions of the Kingdom, to ensure that the necessary preventive measures are taken.
