Saudi Arabia weather: Rain in Al-Jawf, fog in the Eastern Province, and weather alerts

The National Center for Meteorology has revealed details of the expected weather conditions, issuing several weather alerts related to climatic fluctuations directly affecting the Al-Jawf and Eastern regions. These reports come as the Kingdom experiences the beginning of seasonal transitions preceding the official start of winter, a period typically characterized by atmospheric instability and a variety of weather phenomena across the Kingdom's vast expanse.
Rainfall situation in Al-Jawf: Abundant blessings for the "food basket"
In its detailed report for the Al-Jawf region, the center warned of light rainfall affecting the city of Sakaka and the governorate of Dumat Al-Jandal . According to the forecast, this weather pattern will begin at 1:00 AM and continue until 10:00 AM on Tuesday, accompanied by active surface winds, reduced visibility, and the possibility of thunderstorms.
These rains are of strategic importance to the Al-Jawf region, which is nicknamed the "capital of olives" and the food basket of the north. Farmers and investors in the agricultural sector rely on these seasonal rains to enhance groundwater reserves and irrigate vast olive and palm farms, which promises a good agricultural season, despite the accompanying traffic warnings to ensure safe travel on agricultural and highway roads during the rainfall.
Fog in the Eastern Province: The effects of Gulf humidity
On the other side of the map, specifically in the Eastern Province, light fog prevailed, reducing horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers in major economic hubs such as Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Dhahran, and Qatif, as well as Ras Tanura. This condition persisted throughout the early morning hours of Monday.
The periodic formation of fog in these coastal areas at this time of year is attributed to high relative humidity levels originating from the Arabian Gulf, which condenses as temperatures drop at night. This climatic challenge is particularly significant given the high traffic volume in these cities, which house the Kingdom's largest ports, oil facilities, and industrial plants, necessitating heightened vigilance to ensure the continued flow of supply chains and safe transportation.
Climate diversity and meteorological efforts
This contrasting weather pattern, with rain in the north and fog in the east, reflects the diverse geography of Saudi Arabia, where each region is affected by different atmospheric pressure systems. The National Center of Meteorology plays a pivotal and proactive role through its early warning system and the use of the latest monitoring and satellite technologies to provide accurate information that contributes to protecting lives and property and supporting vital sectors in making informed decisions.
Public safety guidelines
In closing, the center and relevant civil defense and traffic authorities emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines. Residents of Al-Jawf are advised to stay away from flood channels, water accumulations, and low-lying areas, while drivers in the Eastern Province are urged to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and maintain a safe following distance to avoid accidents caused by sudden loss of visibility.
