Kingdom weather: Warnings of heavy rain and flash floods until tomorrow

The Kingdom's weather map is experiencing rapid fluctuations that necessitate caution. The National Center for Meteorology has warned of heavy rainfall affecting several regions, expected to continue until tomorrow. These warnings come as the meteorological service records seasonal climate changes impacting wind patterns and rainfall levels across the country, requiring urgent preventative measures to avoid any potential damage from these sudden changes.
Details of the weather conditions and areas affected by the Kingdom's weather fluctuations
The National Center for Meteorology explained that the rainy weather will affect the southern and western parts of the Riyadh region, as well as the eastern parts of the Makkah, Asir, and Al-Baha regions. This weather pattern is characterized by moderate to heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash floods in valleys and streams, accompanied by hail and strong surface winds that will stir up dust and sand, significantly reducing horizontal visibility in some vital areas and on highways connecting cities.
The geographical and climatic context of rainfall waves in the Arabian Peninsula
Historically, the western and southwestern highlands of Saudi Arabia have been among the regions most affected by seasonal weather fluctuations due to their geography and towering mountainous terrain. These highlands play a crucial role in condensing moisture from adjacent bodies of water such as the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, leading to the formation of powerful thunderstorms. In recent years, these weather events have become more frequent and intense, a trend that climate experts attribute to global climate change impacting the Middle East and the Arabian Peninsula in general.
Expected impacts and the importance of adhering to civil defense guidelines
At the local and regional levels, such weather conditions pose logistical and security challenges that necessitate a rapid response from relevant authorities. Heavy rainfall directly impacts traffic flow, the safety of infrastructure, and agricultural activities in rural areas. In this context, the official spokesperson for the National Center for Meteorology, Hussein bin Mohammed Al-Qahtani, emphasized that the expected weather conditions require everyone to exercise extreme caution and stay away from valleys and flood channels, which may experience sudden and rapid water flows.
The center also urged all citizens and residents to fully comply with the instructions and guidelines issued by the General Directorate of Civil Defense and the competent authorities, and to follow the continuous weather updates and reports that the center broadcasts first-hand through its official channels to ensure the safety of lives and property.
