Today's weather, January 6th: 2 degrees Celsius in Al Qurayyat with active winds

The National Center for Meteorology revealed in its weather for Tuesday, January 6, that the cold wave affecting most regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues, with the cities of Al-Qurayyat and Rafha recording the lowest temperatures at only two degrees Celsius, reflecting the peak of the winter season in the northern regions.
Temperatures recorded in the cities of the Kingdom
The northern and central regions witnessed a noticeable decrease in minimum temperatures, with the details as follows:
- Al Qurayyat and Rafha: 2 degrees Celsius.
- Hafar Al-Batin: 3 degrees Celsius.
- Arar, Sakaka, and Tarif: 4 degrees Celsius.
- Riyadh, Abha, Buraidah and Hail: 5 degrees Celsius.
This decrease comes in the context of the usual climatic conditions for the month of January, which is historically one of the coldest months of the year in the Kingdom, as the northern and central regions are usually affected by cold polar air masses, which calls on citizens and residents to take precautions and wear heavy winter clothes, especially for children and the elderly during the night and early morning hours.
Weather phenomena: Rain and strong winds
The National Center for Meteorology clarified that there is still a chance of light rain in parts of the Madinah region, God willing. Simultaneously, the effects of active winds stirring up dust and sand will continue, potentially reducing horizontal visibility in parts of Madinah and extending to the eastern parts of the Makkah, Al-Baha, and Asir regions.
The center also warned of the possibility of dense fog forming during the night and early morning hours in the southern parts of the Eastern Province, which requires extra caution from drivers on highways in those areas to avoid traffic accidents resulting from lack of visibility.
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding the sea conditions, the report detailed the movement of wind and waves:
- Red Sea: Surface winds will be northeasterly to northwesterly in the northern and central parts, and southeasterly to southerly in the southern part, with speeds ranging from 20 to 40 km/h. Wave height will range from one to two meters, with a slight to moderate sea state.
- Arabian Gulf: Surface winds are shifting from northwesterly to northeasterly at speeds of 15-30 km/h, potentially reaching 45 km/h with the formation of rain-bearing thunderstorms over the southern part. Wave heights may reach up to two meters in the presence of thunderstorms, resulting in locally rough sea conditions.
These weather fluctuations reflect the importance of following official weather bulletins on a daily basis, as this weather directly affects daily activities, land travel, and maritime navigation in coastal areas.
