Saudi Arabia weather: Frost in the north and winds in the east – details of the warnings

The National Center for Meteorology issued important weather for Monday, indicating significant weather fluctuations including a sharp drop in temperatures across northern regions and strong surface winds causing dust storms in the eastern region. These forecasts are part of the typical weather changes for this time of year, as cold air masses begin to deepen over the Kingdom.

A cold wave and frost on the northern borders

The center explained in its report that large parts of the Northern Borders region will experience cold wave , with its effects beginning at 2:00 AM and continuing until 8:00 AM on Monday. This weather system will affect the cities and governorates of Al-Uwaiqilah, Rafha, Tarif, and Arar.

Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, ranging between zero degrees Celsius and 3 degrees below zero, creating the opportunity for frost , a weather phenomenon that requires caution, especially for drivers on highways in the early morning hours, as well as for farmers and livestock breeders in those open areas.

The climatic context of the northern regions

The northern regions of Saudi Arabia, due to their geographical proximity to the Levant and their exposure to high-pressure systems from the north, are the primary gateway for polar cold waves. Historically, cities like Tarif and Arar record the lowest temperatures in the Kingdom during winter, with frost and sub-zero temperatures being frequent occurrences that necessitate special preparations by residents and relevant authorities to ensure public safety and the safe heating of homes.

Active winds and dust in the eastern region

In contrast, on the eastern side of the Kingdom, the National Center for Meteorology warned of different weather phenomena, including active winds and dust storms. This condition is expected to begin at 9:00 AM and continue until 6:00 PM.

The effects include the cities of Jubail, Dammam, Khobar, Qatif, and Ras Tanura, where strong winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 49 kilometers per hour will occur, leading to reduced horizontal visibility and high waves in coastal areas.

The situation also extends to Al-Ahsa, Al-Udayd, and Abqaiq, where dust-laden winds will be active, reducing horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers. Experts advise caution while driving on highways connecting the Eastern Province cities and recommend avoiding direct exposure to dust, especially for those with respiratory conditions and asthma.

The importance of following weather forecasts

These weather fluctuations directly impact daily life, affecting land travel and maritime activities in the Arabian Gulf. Official authorities consistently urge the public to stay updated on weather conditions through the official channels of the National Center of Meteorology and to adhere to Civil Defense guidelines for dealing with cold spells, frost, or dust storms to ensure everyone's safety.
