Today's weather: Stable conditions and fog in Mecca, the Eastern Province, and Asir

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued its daily weather for today, Thursday, indicating stable and calm conditions across most of the Kingdom. This report is part of the Center's ongoing monitoring of weather changes and its efforts to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
Weather forecast: Stable conditions and fog
The report indicated that the weather will be generally stable, but there remains a chance of dense fog, which could reduce horizontal visibility during the night and early morning hours. This weather pattern will affect parts of the Makkah, Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan , as well as the southern parts of the Eastern Province . This variation in weather conditions necessitates caution while traveling in these areas.
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding maritime traffic, the report detailed the situation as follows:
- The Red Sea: Northwesterly to northerly surface winds prevail in the northern part, while southeasterly to southwesterly winds prevail in the central and southern parts. Wind speeds range from 12 to 35 km/h, reaching up to 45 km/h towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Wave heights range from half a meter to one and a half meters, reaching up to two meters towards the strait, with sea conditions ranging from slight to moderate.
- Arabian Gulf: Northwesterly winds prevail at speeds ranging from 10 to 28 km/h, with wave heights from half a meter to one meter, and a slight sea state.
The importance of weather monitoring and public safety
The National Center of Meteorology's reports are of paramount importance in daily life, playing a pivotal role in preserving lives and property. Fog is a weather phenomenon that requires special attention due to its direct impact on the safety of highways, air traffic, and maritime navigation. Authorities, such as the General Directorate of Traffic, typically advise drivers in fog-affected areas to reduce their speed, use fog lights, and maintain a safe following distance to avoid traffic accidents.
Climate diversity in the Kingdom
This report reflects the great geographical and climatic diversity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. While the central and northern regions experience stable weather, the southern and western highlands and coastal plains are affected by different weather phenomena due to their topography and high humidity levels. This diversity necessitates precise and continuous monitoring using the latest technologies, including radar and satellites, which is what the National Center of Meteorology undertakes to provide accurate and up-to-date information to the public and relevant government agencies.
