Saudi Arabia weather today: Fog in Asir and Jazan, and dust in the Eastern Province

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued weather , warning of weather fluctuations affecting several regions, ranging from dense fog in the southern highlands to reduced visibility due to dust storms in the Eastern Province. These warnings are part of the center's ongoing monitoring of weather changes to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.

Light fog over the southern highlands

The center explained in its alert that large parts of the Asir and Jazan are experiencing light fog, which began at 2:00 AM on Thursday and will continue until 8:00 AM. This phenomenon is normal for this time of year, as the mountainous terrain of the Asir region and the high humidity in the coastal and mountainous areas of Jazan contribute to the condensation of low clouds and the formation of fog.

The alert in the Asir region included the following cities and governorates: Abha, Khamis Mushait, Al-Namas, Balqarn, and Tanomah. In the Jazan region, the alert covered a wide range of governorates, including: Abu Arish, Ahad Al Masarihah, Al Tuwal, Al Fatihah, Samtah, Sabya, Damad, Al Harth, Al Dayer, Al Reeth, Al Aridhah, Al Eidabi, Fifa, and Haroub. The center warned that the accompanying effects include a decrease in horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers, necessitating caution while driving on highways and in mountainous areas.

Winds and dust storms in the eastern region

In a related development, the National Center for Meteorology warned of active surface winds stirring up dust and sand in parts of the Eastern Province . This weather condition will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until 3:00 PM in the governorates of Khafji, Nairyah, and Qaryat Al-Ulya, while its effects will extend to Hafr Al-Batin until 6:00 PM.

Forecasts indicate that this weather pattern will reduce horizontal visibility to 3-5 kilometers. Open and desert areas in the Eastern Province are particularly susceptible to these dust storms, especially during seasonal transitions, which could negatively impact those with respiratory conditions and asthma.

Safety guidelines and the importance of follow-up

The relevant authorities, including Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, urge drivers to adhere to speed limits, maintain a safe following distance, use low-beam headlights in foggy conditions, and avoid speeding in areas with heavy dust. The National Center of Meteorology emphasizes the importance of monitoring the early warning system for the latest weather updates, as these reports play a vital role in regulating air and land traffic and protecting lives and property.
