The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia has revealed its weather forecast for February, which promises good tidings and abundant rainfall. Reports issued by the center indicate the possibility of rainfall exceeding the average for this time of year across large areas of the Kingdom, accompanied by noticeable changes in temperature and increased surface wind activity.
Details of the expected rainfall
According to climate model outputs, forecasts indicate – God willing – that rainfall will be up to 55% above average in specific areas. These areas include parts of central Medina, the Eastern Province, and parts of central Qassim, as well as eastern, central, and northern Hail. The forecast also extends to the Northern Borders and Al-Jawf regions. Conversely, rainfall is expected to be around average in the rest of the Kingdom, with minor exceptions in parts of northern Riyadh and the Eastern Province.
High temperatures and wind activity
Regarding temperatures, the center reported that February will see an increase in average surface temperatures across all regions of the Kingdom. Probabilistic data indicates a maximum increase of approximately 1.4 degrees Celsius, particularly in parts of the southern and southwestern Eastern Province, southeast of Riyadh, and the eastern and central parts of the Jazan region, with a probability of 70%. As for wind patterns, forecasts show an increase in speed across the southern, central, eastern, and northern regions, potentially reaching 0.9 m/s, with southerly to southeasterly winds prevailing, which may stir up dust at times.
