Saudi Arabia weather: Winds, dust storms, and scattered rain in several regions

Weather forecast for the Kingdom for Tuesday
The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily weather forecast for various regions of Saudi Arabia for Tuesday. The forecast indicates continued weather fluctuations, with active surface winds stirring up dust and sand remaining the most prominent feature, reducing horizontal visibility across large parts of the country. Meanwhile, there is a chance of scattered rain and fog formation in some other areas.
According to the report, active winds stirring up dust and sand are expected to affect the regions of Tabuk, Madinah, and Makkah, especially their coastal areas. The impact of these winds will also extend to the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, Hail, Al-Qassim, Riyadh, and Eastern Province regions.
Meanwhile, there is a chance of scattered rain and fog formation in parts of the Jazan, Asir and Al-Baha regions, in addition to parts of the north of the Kingdom.
The climatic context of weather fluctuations in Saudi Arabia
These weather phenomena are part of the Kingdom's natural climatic pattern, particularly during the transitional periods between seasons. This period is known locally as the "Sarayat" or "Summer Winds," characterized by atmospheric instability resulting from the convergence of air masses with differing characteristics. This leads to the formation of strong downdrafts that stir up dust and sand, and may be accompanied by the sudden development of thunderstorms and rain. The National Center for Meteorology plays a vital role in monitoring these rapid changes and issuing the necessary warnings to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
Expected effects and safety guidelines
These weather fluctuations have direct impacts on public health and safety. Dust storms pose a risk to those with respiratory conditions, asthma, and allergies, so they are advised to stay indoors and keep windows tightly closed. Regarding transportation, reduced visibility increases the risk of traffic accidents on highways, requiring drivers to exercise caution and reduce their speed. Air traffic at airports in the affected areas may also be affected, with the possibility of flight delays or cancellations. On the other hand, scattered rainfall, particularly in the southwestern highlands, is crucial for supporting the agricultural sector and replenishing groundwater resources.
