Al-Qurayyat is 2 degrees Celsius colder... Today's weather in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia experienced significant weather fluctuations and a noticeable drop in temperatures on Wednesday, December 31st, with Al-Qurayyat recording the coldest temperature at just 2 degrees Celsius, according to data from the National Center for Meteorology. This drop coincides with a cold wave affecting the northern and central regions of the Kingdom, a common occurrence at this time of year, which marks the peak of winter.
Temperature details in Saudi cities
In a detailed analysis of today's weather, Tabuk and Tarif were the second coldest cities, recording 3 degrees Celsius, reflecting the impact of cold air masses on the northern regions. Abha, Rafha, Hafr Al-Batin, Arar, Sakaka, and Hail all recorded 4 degrees Celsius, while Taif reached 5 degrees Celsius. The capital, Riyadh, and Khamis Mushait recorded 6 degrees Celsius, prompting residents to wear warm winter clothing and take precautions against catching colds.
Weather phenomena and active winds
Regarding the general weather conditions, the National Center for Meteorology explained that weather maps indicate active surface winds stirring up dust and sand. This activity is not limited to one area but extends to large parts of the Makkah, Riyadh, Madinah, Qassim, and Hail regions, in addition to Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, the Eastern Province, and Najran. These effects also extend to the eastern parts of the southwestern highlands of the Kingdom.
Weather effects and safety guidelines
This weather condition is of particular importance due to its direct impact on horizontal visibility, especially on highways and in open areas. These conditions serve as a reminder of the importance of following traffic safety guidelines. Drivers are advised to exercise caution, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and avoid speeding in areas with reduced visibility due to dust.
From a health perspective, doctors and specialists advise respiratory and asthma patients to avoid direct exposure to dusty conditions and to wear masks when going outside, in order to prevent health complications that may result from inhaling airborne dust. The relevant authorities confirm they are continuing to monitor the weather situation and issue necessary warnings to ensure everyone's safety.
