Saudi Arabia weather today: Tabuk records one degree and a severe cold wave

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia announced the latest weather , revealing a noticeable drop in temperatures across most regions of the Kingdom. Tabuk topped the list of coldest cities, recording the lowest temperature on Saturday at 1 degree Celsius, reflecting the severity of the current cold wave.

Temperatures recorded in the cities of the Kingdom

In its detailed climate report, the center explained that the cold wave was not limited to Tabuk, but also affected several other cities. Dawadmi, Tarif, Qurayyat, and Taif all recorded temperatures as low as 2 degrees Celsius. Similarly, weather stations recorded 3 degrees Celsius in Hail and Sakaka, while Buraidah, Bisha, and Rafha recorded 4 degrees Celsius, necessitating caution from residents.

Climate context and weather forecasts

This cold wave is part of the typical winter weather pattern in the Kingdom, where the northern and central regions are affected by cold air masses from the north, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures and frost. The National Center of Meteorology expects these cold to very cold conditions to continue for the next 24 hours, particularly in the northern and central regions of the Kingdom, as well as the highlands of the Makkah and Al-Baha regions.

The center also warned of the possibility of fog and frost forming during the night and early morning hours, which may affect horizontal visibility on highways and open roads, requiring drivers to exercise extreme caution while driving at these times.

Winds and dust in the Eastern Province

On another note, the report indicated active surface winds stirring up dust and sand, which are expected to continue affecting parts of the Eastern Province and extend to parts of Tabuk, Madinah, and Makkah, particularly their coastal areas. This wind activity may contribute to a temporary decrease in horizontal visibility.

State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

Regarding the maritime situation, the center provided the following details:

  • The Red Sea: The northern and central parts are experiencing northeasterly to northerly winds at speeds ranging from 15 to 40 km/h, with wave heights reaching up to two meters. The southern part is experiencing northwesterly to southwesterly winds, and the sea is calm to moderate.
  • Arabian Gulf: Winds will be westerly to northwesterly at speeds of up to 40 km/h, and may exceed 50 km/h with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds, which may lead to waves rising to more than two meters and the sea becoming rough during periods of thunder activity.

In such weather conditions, experts advise wearing heavy winter clothing, especially for children and the elderly, staying away from flood channels or open areas during strong winds, and following weather updates continuously.
