The Saudi tent in Medina celebrates Founding Day 2024

In a patriotic atmosphere brimming with pride and honor, the "Saudi Tent" and its accompanying historical exhibition at the Islamic University of Madinah welcomed large crowds of residents and visitors to participate in the celebrations commemorating the "Founding Day." These events aim to highlight the historical depth and cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, connecting current generations with their nation's three-century-long history.
Founding Day: Celebrating three centuries of history
Every year on February 22nd, Saudis celebrate "Foundation Day," a national occasion commemorating the historic moment when the first Saudi state was established by Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1727. This day marks the beginning of a great nation built on the foundations of unity and stability in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula, with Diriyah as its capital and the starting point of its glory. Celebrating this anniversary is not merely a national day; it is a reaffirmation of the state's deep roots and a source of pride in its long history, which has forged a unique political and cultural entity.
A journey through time in the historical exhibition
The historical exhibition, held as part of the events, witnessed a large turnout, offering visitors a comprehensive documentary account of the Saudi state's journey since its founding three centuries ago. Through its specialized pavilions, the exhibition showcased the major milestones and civilizational transformations the state has undergone, from its initial foundations to the comprehensive renaissance and development the Kingdom is witnessing today across various fields under the banner of Vision 2030. The exhibition enabled visitors to explore national achievements and historical feats in a complete educational journey that fosters a deeper understanding of the nation's history.
"The Saudi Tent": A Living Cultural Experience
The “Saudi Tent” embodies authentic folk heritage through interactive experiences that take visitors on a journey to the past. Among its highlights are the “Our Clothes from the Beginning,” showcasing a variety of traditional Saudi clothing, and the “Our Food from the Beginning,” presenting examples of authentic Saudi hospitality and famous traditional dishes. Additionally, the handicrafts corner highlights the skills and creativity of our ancestors, while the Arabic calligraphy corner showcases the beauty of this ancient art. The “Storyteller’s Corner” is a particularly engaging experience, where stories from the national memory are recounted, inspiring generations and acquainting them with the heroic deeds of their forefathers.
The importance of the event and its national and international dimensions
These events are of paramount importance both locally and internationally. Locally, they contribute to strengthening national identity and belonging among citizens, and reinforcing the nation's pride in its deep-rooted heritage. Internationally, and especially in a city as diverse as Medina, these celebrations serve as a bridge for cultural exchange. The events witnessed a remarkable turnout of international students who gained firsthand knowledge of the Kingdom's identity and history, reflecting the Islamic University's role as a cultural hub that brings together various nationalities to celebrate Saudi national achievements.
It is worth mentioning that the events will continue at the university headquarters until February 26, and will be open daily from 10 pm until midnight. They include cultural competitions, visual presentations and national poems, as part of the university’s efforts to promote national belonging and highlight the Saudi identity.
