Scouts launch environmental protection program in Riyadh to support a green Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabian Scouts Association is preparing to launch its "Scout Program for Environmental Protection" next Wednesday, February 11th, at the King Salman Wildlife Park in Banban, north of Riyadh. This strategic initiative aims to translate theoretical environmental awareness into tangible and sustainable field practices, with broad participation from young scouts.
Keeping pace with the national vision and green initiatives
This program is not an isolated event, but rather an integral part of the broader national movement in Saudi Arabia focused on environmental conservation. It aligns directly with the goals of Vision 2030 , which places great emphasis on environmental sustainability, and complements the "Green Saudi Arabia" and "Green Middle East" initiatives. These major initiatives aim to increase vegetation cover, reduce carbon emissions, and combat desertification and land degradation—pressing environmental challenges that the Kingdom is addressing through concerted governmental and community efforts.
Promoting a culture of volunteering and social responsibility
The Secretary-General of the Association, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Al-Mudaires, explained that this program embodies the leading national role of scouting in serving the community and the environment. He emphasized that the goal is not limited to agriculture alone, but extends to instilling positive behaviors in young people and strengthening their sense of social responsibility towards natural resources. The scouting movement in the Kingdom has a long history of volunteer work, always striving to empower youth to be active participants in achieving sustainable development.
Strategic partnerships to ensure a sustainable impact
To ensure the program's success and maximize its impact, it is implemented through an integrated partnership system with several relevant government and service entities. The list of partners includes:
- Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
- Riyadh Municipality.
- National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification.
- Ministry of Education.
- The General Organization for Technical and Vocational Training.
This institutional cooperation reflects the importance of combining efforts between different sectors to achieve national environmental goals.
Field and awareness activities
The program's outputs are set to include a range of practical activities, most notably planting seedlings and sowing seeds in targeted locations within the park, contributing to the rehabilitation of natural vegetation. In addition to fieldwork, awareness and educational programs will be implemented to raise environmental awareness within the local community and promote the concepts of conserving natural resources and protecting them from excessive pollution, thus ensuring the sustainability of these resources for future generations and achieving the desired ecological balance.
