Saudi scouts during Hajj: 550,000 hours and 73 volunteer opportunities

The Saudi Arabian Scouts Association announced the launch of 73 specialized volunteer opportunities as part of its public service camps in Mecca, the Holy Sites, and Medina for the 1447 AH Hajj season. The Saudi Scouts' participation in Hajj is an integral part of ongoing national efforts to promote a culture of volunteerism and empower young men and women to actively contribute to serving the pilgrims. These unique programs embody the highest values of giving and are directly aligned with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to develop the third sector and expand community participation.
A long historical legacy of serving the guests of God
The participation of Saudi youth in organizing Hajj seasons is not a recent phenomenon, but rather extends back decades. The Scouts' official involvement in supporting pilgrims began in the early 1980s (Hijri calendar), with the association undertaking the responsibility of assisting government agencies in providing guidance, health, and organizational services. This rich historical legacy has made the Scout uniform a distinctive symbol and a source of reassurance for pilgrims lost in the holy sites. Over the years, these camps have evolved into a professional volunteer organization that utilizes the latest technologies and global methodologies in crowd management and logistical support, reflecting the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to dedicating all its human resources to the comfort of pilgrims.
A professional approach and a variety of volunteer opportunities
In detailing the current initiative, the Volunteer Committee at the service camps explained that the opportunities offered were designed according to a precise, professional methodology that takes into account the nature of scouting and service work within the camps. The association aims to attract more than five thousand male and female volunteers, who will be distributed across 20 camps, ultimately achieving more than 550,000 volunteer hours. This massive undertaking directly contributes to developing the leadership, organizational, technical, and educational skills of the participants, in addition to enhancing the quality of services provided to pilgrims. The volunteer opportunities this season are diverse, encompassing vital areas such as managing the scout experience, digital media and professional documentation, safety and security and risk management, event organization and operation, as well as programs to train participants in Hajj operations, raise awareness of operational systems and procedures, and provide field support.
The regional and international impact of Saudi scout efforts during Hajj
The significance of these scouting camps extends far beyond local impact, resonating regionally and internationally. Locally, these initiatives contribute to building a conscious and responsible generation, equipped with the skills to manage crises and handle massive crowds. Regionally and internationally, the success of Saudi scouts during Hajj presents a global model for volunteer work and the management of large gatherings. The presence of Saudi youth serving pilgrims from all corners of the earth reflects the Kingdom's positive image and highlights its values of tolerance, Islamic cooperation, and humanitarianism, thus strengthening the Kingdom's soft power and reaffirming its unparalleled leadership in serving the Two Holy Mosques.
An integrated system to enhance quality of life and sustainability
In line with modern trends, the initiatives include specialized opportunities in environmental sustainability and facility quality, technical support, and the operation of electronic systems and operations rooms. In addition, quality-of-life programs and interactive activities are highlighted, aiming to foster positive interaction and enhance participant satisfaction within scout camps. The association has incorporated into its programs the "Scouting Experiences" opportunity, which aims to share outstanding experiences and document success stories, as well as the "Preserving Blessings" initiative, which manages surplus food to reduce waste, and "First Aid Support" opportunities to support medical teams. The association emphasized that these initiatives are part of an integrated system aimed at building an educational scouting environment that contributes to developing leadership skills and instilling values of national responsibility. It noted that registration is open to all, subject to the established regulations.
