A rich history of the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair
The Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the world's largest pre-college science competition. Founded in 1950 by the Society for Science in the USA, it has since brought together millions of students from over 80 countries around the world to compete and showcase their independent research and innovations.
At the national level, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a distinguished and illustrious record in this prestigious exhibition. Through a strategic partnership between the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba” and the Ministry of Education, the Kingdom has consistently sent its best talents annually, resulting in the winning of hundreds of major and special awards over the years, making the Saudi presence a formidable force and a strong competitor in various scientific fields such as environmental engineering, medicine, artificial intelligence, and materials science.
The importance of the event and its impact on the scientific landscape locally and internationally
The importance of student participation in ISEF extends far beyond mere competition and medal winning; it encompasses profound strategic dimensions. Locally, this participation aligns closely with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to transform the Kingdom into a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy. Investing in these young people strengthens Saudi Arabia's human capital and cultivates a generation capable of leading the Kingdom's technological and industrial future.
Regionally, the Kingdom's continued excellence in this field makes it a model to be emulated in the Arab world, inspiring neighboring countries to strengthen their gifted student programs and develop scientific research curricula in schools. Internationally, the innovations presented by Saudi students contribute promising solutions to pressing global challenges, such as climate change, energy sustainability, and food security, underscoring the Kingdom's role as an active partner in building a better future for all humanity.
