The Red Crescent raises its readiness level in Asir to cope with weather fluctuations

The Saudi Red Crescent Authority branch in the Asir region announced it has raised its level of preparedness and declared a state of maximum alert at all its ambulance centers as a proactive precautionary measure in anticipation of any emergencies that may arise from the weather fluctuations and rainstorms affecting the region. This swift action comes in response to meteorological warnings indicating the possibility of rainfall and flash floods, necessitating a concerted effort to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The nature of the Asir region and the challenges of its weather

These preparations are particularly important given the geographical nature of the Asir region, characterized by its rugged mountainous terrain and steep slopes, especially in the mountain passes connecting the Sarawat Mountains to the Tihama coastal plain. In such conditions, dense fog often forms, reducing horizontal visibility, and there is a risk of rockfalls or sudden flash floods in valleys and ravines. Therefore, enhancing preparedness involves not only increasing the number of paramedics but also ensuring that vehicles are ready to handle the rough roads and challenging weather conditions to guarantee the fastest possible access to the injured.

Calls for caution and vigilance

In a related development, the authority issued an urgent appeal to citizens and residents to exercise extreme caution and stay away from flood channels and wadis, which could pose a deadly risk during rainfall. It also stressed the importance of adhering to traffic safety rules and avoiding speeding while driving in the presence of dust and strong winds that may accompany the weather conditions, as these conditions can negatively affect vehicle control.

Communication channels and emergency technologies

The authority confirmed that its operations rooms are working at full capacity around the clock to receive emergency calls via the unified emergency number (997). Recognizing the importance of technology in expediting response times, the authority encouraged the use of available smart applications such as the “Is’afni” (Rescue Me) and “First Responder” apps. These applications allow for highly accurate location pinpointing, facilitating the arrival of ambulance teams, especially in remote areas or on highways. This reflects the significant advancements in the Kingdom’s ambulance services system and its commitment to adopting the latest technologies to serve humanity and preserve life.
