Red Crescent achievement in Makkah region: 125,000 volunteer hours

Authority in the Makkah region recorded Red Crescent a strong and impactful presence in the field of humanitarian and volunteer work during the first quarter of 2026, through the widespread participation of male and female volunteers who contributed to supporting ambulance and humanitarian efforts across the region's various governorates. The Authority explained that the total number of volunteers reached 12,650, divided into 6,899 men and 5,751 women. These efforts resulted in a total of 125,217 volunteer hours, a strong indicator reflecting the growing culture of volunteerism and the increased contribution of community members to supporting ambulance services.

A historic journey filled with humanitarian contributions

This achievement was not a sudden occurrence, but rather the culmination of a long history of institutional humanitarian work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Ambulance services in the Kingdom were established decades ago to answer the call of humanitarian duty, and have evolved into the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, a prominent institution providing services both locally and internationally. The Authority has placed great emphasis on establishing specialized volunteer departments, believing that volunteer work is the cornerstone of building cohesive societies capable of facing crises. Historically, ambulance efforts in the Makkah region have been linked to serving pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah, imbuing this work with a unique spiritual and humanitarian character.

The role of the Red Crescent in the Makkah region in enhancing humanitarian response

The event's significance and anticipated impact are evident on several levels. Locally, the presence of thousands of qualified volunteers contributes to reducing emergency response times and raising health and first aid awareness within the community. Regionally and internationally, the success of the Red Crescent in the Makkah region in managing this massive number of volunteers reflects the Kingdom's exceptional ability to manage crowds and provide advanced healthcare to millions of pilgrims arriving from all corners of the globe. This outstanding model positions the Kingdom among the world's leading nations in the field of emergency medical volunteering and crisis management.

The diversity and geographical distribution of volunteer opportunities

The authority indicated that the number of volunteer opportunities implemented during the same period reached 793, covering a variety of fields that meet the needs of the community. These opportunities were geographically distributed to cover the most important cities in the region, with 351 opportunities in Jeddah, 321 in Mecca, and 121 in Taif. This strategic distribution reflects the broad scope of community participation and the diversity of volunteer work fields, ensuring that humanitarian and emergency services reach all segments of society with high efficiency.

Empowering society and achieving the goals of Vision 2030

The Authority affirmed that these record numbers are a continuation of its ongoing efforts to empower volunteer work and enhance community preparedness. This is achieved by attracting and training volunteers to participate in emergency and awareness-raising activities within a structured framework that ensures high-quality performance and safe practices. In this context, the Authority invited all those interested in joining the ranks of volunteers to register through the “Volunteer with Us” platform, which offers diverse opportunities to develop volunteers' skills. These tireless efforts to promote a culture of volunteerism continue, stemming from the Authority's humanitarian role and directly contributing to the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to develop the non-profit sector and reach one million volunteers.
