Attorney General: Leadership support strengthens the independence of the prosecution and ensures swift justice

His Excellency the Attorney General, Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Muajab, affirmed that the justice system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing a golden age thanks to the unlimited support and continuous attention of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister – may God protect them both. This came during his chairmanship, today, Thursday, of the periodic meeting of the heads of regional prosecution offices, in the presence of assistant public prosecutors and a number of prosecution leaders.

Historical development and firmly established judicial independence

In discussing these rapid developments, Sheikh Al-Muajeb noted that the Public Prosecution has achieved significant leaps in performance indicators, strengthening its position and reinforcing its complete judicial independence. This progress is a continuation of the historical transformations witnessed by the judicial system, particularly following the Royal Decree that placed the Public Prosecution directly under the King's authority. This decree granted the Public Prosecution complete independence from the executive branch and ensured its impartiality in applying regulations and protecting rights, a fundamental pillar of the Kingdom's modern legislation.

Public Prosecution Council: A Shift in Governance

His Excellency addressed the paramount importance of the Royal Decree establishing the Public Prosecution Council, describing it as a qualitative organizational leap. He explained that this council has directly contributed to consolidating the regulatory framework for prosecutorial work and enhancing the effectiveness of institutional governance, thus ensuring the accuracy and transparency of procedures and aligning with best international judicial practices.

Governmental integration and swift justice

During the meeting, the Attorney General stressed the need to strengthen joint coordination with all relevant government agencies, emphasizing that integrated work is the best way to achieve swift justice. He pointed out that speed in resolving cases should not come at the expense of accuracy, but rather should go hand in hand with streamlining procedures for beneficiaries in accordance with applicable regulations, thus enhancing institutional performance and strengthening public confidence in the justice system.

Human rights and prison oversight

As part of the Public Prosecution's commitment to upholding rights, Sheikh Al-Muajab directed the intensification of oversight and inspection tours of prison facilities and detention centers. He emphasized the importance of directly assessing the conditions of inmates and detainees, listening to their complaints, and addressing their concerns promptly, thereby ensuring their rights as guaranteed by Islamic law and the Kingdom's regulations, and reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to human rights standards.

Developmental and social impact

This meeting is of particular importance as it comes within the framework of reviewing performance results and achievement rates, and exploring mechanisms for developing criminal procedures. These development efforts will positively impact the investment and social environment in the Kingdom, as an independent and efficient judiciary is one of the most important elements for attracting foreign investment and achieving social security, which is central to the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which places the rule of law and the protection of rights at the forefront of its priorities.
