Historical background of Cuban Liberation Day
Every year on January 1st, the Republic of Cuba celebrates Liberation Day (Triunfo de la Revolución), a major national holiday commemorating the victory of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. This date marks a pivotal turning point in the country's history, leading to the downfall of Fulgencio Batista's regime and his departure from the country, ushering in a new era for the Caribbean island. These celebrations coincide annually with the start of the new year, with festivities taking place in the capital, Havana, and throughout Cuba, recalling the historic struggle for national sovereignty.
Saudi-Cuban relations and prospects for cooperation
The congratulatory messages from the Saudi leadership come within the framework of the distinguished diplomatic relations that bind Riyadh and Havana. Relations between the two countries have witnessed remarkable development in recent years, characterized by joint cooperation in numerous fields, most notably coordination in international forums and economic collaboration.
It is worth noting that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the Saudi Fund for Development, has contributed to financing several development projects in Cuba, encompassing vital sectors such as the rehabilitation of water and sanitation networks and the development of healthcare infrastructure. This cooperation reflects the Kingdom's commitment to supporting development efforts in friendly nations and strengthening international partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests.
The importance of diplomatic protocols
This congratulatory message is part of the established diplomatic norms that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia follows in its foreign policy, as the wise leadership is keen to share the national celebrations of the leaders of the world’s countries, which contributes to strengthening bilateral relations and opening new horizons for future cooperation in a way that serves the interests of the peoples and enhances global stability and prosperity.
