The leadership offers condolences to the King of Jordan on the death of Ali Abu al-Ragheb

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, sent a cable of condolences to His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on the death of His Excellency Engineer Ali Abu Al-Ragheb, the former Prime Minister, who passed away after a long career in service to his country.

In his telegram, the King said: “We have learned of the death of His Excellency Engineer Ali Abu Al-Ragheb, the former Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan - may God have mercy on him - and as we send to Your Majesty and to the family of the deceased our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy, we ask God Almighty to have mercy on him and forgive him, and to grant him a spacious place in Paradise, and to protect you from all harm. Indeed, we belong to God and to Him we shall return.”.

In the same vein, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent a similar cable of condolences to His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince said: "I received the news of the passing of His Excellency Engineer Ali Abu Ragheb, former Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan – may God have mercy on him – and I extend to Your Majesty and the family of the deceased my deepest condolences and sincere sympathy, asking Almighty God to grant him His abundant mercy and forgiveness, and to admit him to His spacious Paradise, and to protect you from all harm. He is the All-Hearing, the Responsive.".

A prominent political and economic career

The late Ali Abu al-Ragheb is a pivotal figure in modern Jordanian political history, having served as Prime Minister and Minister of Defense between 2000 and 2003. His term gained special significance as it came at the beginning of King Abdullah II’s reign, during which he played a key role in translating the royal visions for economic reform and modernizing the legislative and investment structure in Jordan.

Abu Ragheb’s term was characterized by a focus on the economic file, as it witnessed the launch of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, and many privatization projects that aimed to stimulate the Jordanian economy and integrate it into the global market, which made his death resonate widely in Jordanian and regional political and economic circles.
