Saudi-Korean relations: An important message for the Foreign Minister

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, received an important written message from his South Korean counterpart, Mr. Joo Hyun, focusing on ways to strengthen and develop Saudi-Korean relations in various bilateral fields. The message was received on behalf of the Minister by Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, Undersecretary for Multilateral International Affairs and General Supervisor of the Ministry's Agency for Economic and Development Affairs, during his official meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Shin Chul Kang, at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh.

New prospects for developing Saudi-Korean relations

This written message comes in the context of the strong historical relations that unite Riyadh and Seoul, which extend over decades of fruitful cooperation and established diplomatic ties that were officially founded in 1962. Over the years, Saudi-Korean relations qualitative leaps and major strategic transformations, especially after the launch of the “Saudi-Korean Vision 2030” in 2017, which represents an integrated framework for economic, technological and industrial cooperation between the two friendly countries.

This ongoing collaboration aims to align the Kingdom's ambitious development plans with the leading technological and industrial expertise of the Republic of Korea. The partnership covers multiple vital sectors, including clean energy, infrastructure, healthcare, smart city development, and the ICT sector, contributing to the sustainable development of both countries.

Political and economic dimensions to strengthen bilateral partnership

This diplomatic activity carries significant implications both regionally and internationally. Economically, South Korea is one of Saudi Arabia's largest trading partners and a major importer of Saudi crude oil, while Korean investments in the Kingdom's mega-projects – such as NEOM and renewable energy sectors – are a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia's strategy to diversify its economy away from oil.

On the political front, enhanced coordination between Riyadh and Seoul contributes to regional and international stability. During the recent meeting, they reviewed areas of joint cooperation and discussed key developments and issues of mutual interest on both the regional and international stages. This ongoing communication reflects the two countries' desire to unify their visions and positions on current global challenges, such as global energy security, climate change, and vital supply chains, thus giving their partnership a strategic dimension that transcends bilateral interests to encompass broader horizons of effective international cooperation.
