In a magnificent Ramadan scene embodying the spirit of Islamic brotherhood and solidarity, more than 21,500 fasting individuals gathered at the tables of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' Iftar Program in the Grand Mosque of Surabaya, Indonesia. This grand event, organized by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, represented by the Religious Attaché at the Kingdom's Embassy in Indonesia, reflects the deep spiritual and humanitarian ties that bind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Indonesia.
Historical background of Saudi giving programs
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' Program for Iftar (breaking the fast) is one of the most prominent global humanitarian initiatives launched annually by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan. This program extends to dozens of countries worldwide, targeting Muslims across different continents, and is considered an integral part of the Kingdom's leading role in serving Islam and Muslims. Historically, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, which has the largest Muslim population in the world, have enjoyed strong and enduring fraternal relations that extend beyond political and economic spheres to include religious and cultural cooperation. These charitable programs are a practical embodiment of these deep-rooted ties.
The importance of the event and its expected impact
This communal iftar holds great significance on several levels. Locally, it strengthens social solidarity among the people of Surabaya and provides direct support to thousands of families and individuals. The presence of the Governor of East Java, Ms. Khofifah Inder Varawnsa, along with a number of religious, military, and community leaders, underscores the high official and public appreciation for this initiative. Internationally, this program enhances the Kingdom's positive image as a leading nation in humanitarian and Islamic work, reinforcing its message of moderation, tolerance, and generosity. It also highlights the Kingdom's concern for the affairs of Muslims worldwide and its commitment to building bridges of communication and affection with them. Among the beneficiaries were 5,000 memorizers of the Holy Quran, a clear indication of the Kingdom's care for Quran memorizers and its support for their academic pursuits.
Confirmation of the continuity of giving
The religious attaché at the Kingdom's embassy affirmed that the program stems from the wise leadership's keen interest in Islamic and humanitarian work. He noted that the implementation of these programs is carried out under the direct supervision and continuous guidance of His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, ensuring that the aid reaches those who deserve it. For her part, the Governor of East Java expressed her profound gratitude and appreciation to the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince – may God protect them – for these blessed efforts that strengthen the bonds of affection between the two brotherly nations, emphasizing that these initiatives leave a positive impact on the Indonesian people.
