Faisal bin Farhan discusses the latest developments in the Syrian crisis with his Syrian counterpart
His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, made a telephone call to his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, to discuss the latest developments on the Syrian scene and to discuss issues of common interest.

The telephone call, which took place yesterday, Thursday, included a comprehensive review of developments in Syria and the region, with both sides focusing on efforts to enhance security and stability. During the call, His Highness the Foreign Minister affirmed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to preserving Syria's territorial integrity and Arab identity, and to achieving security for the brotherly Syrian people.
The path to resuming diplomatic relations
This contact comes in the context of growing diplomatic relations between Riyadh and Damascus, following the official resumption of relations and Syria’s return to its seat in the League of Arab States during the Arab Summit held in Jeddah in May 2023. That summit constituted a pivotal turning point in the course of Arab-Syrian relations, as the Kingdom led intensive diplomatic efforts to end the state of estrangement and open a new page based on joint Arab action.
Arab efforts and a political solution
These talks fall within the framework of ongoing diplomatic efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in cooperation with fellow Arab states through the Arab Contact Group on Syria. These efforts aim to find a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, ensuring the return of refugees, combating terrorism and drug trafficking, and restoring Syrian state sovereignty over all its territory.
The importance of regional coordination
Saudi-Syrian coordination is of paramount importance at this stage given the geopolitical challenges facing the region. Through its active diplomacy, the Kingdom seeks to resolve regional problems and strengthen the foundations of stability in the Middle East, emphasizing that dialogue and political solutions are the only way to overcome protracted crises and ensure a secure and prosperous future for the peoples of the region.
