The Saudi Foreign Minister affirms support for Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received His Excellency Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh on Sunday. This meeting comes within the framework of strengthening ongoing consultations between the two brotherly countries and coordinating positions on regional and international issues.
At the outset of the meeting, His Highness the Foreign Minister reiterated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s firm and unwavering support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, emphasizing the Kingdom’s complete commitment to Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity. His Highness also expressed the Kingdom’s categorical rejection of any practices or interventions that could undermine Somalia’s security and stability, a position that reflects Riyadh’s enduring commitment to upholding international legitimacy and the principles of good neighborliness.
The meeting included a comprehensive review of the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and explored ways to enhance and develop them across various political, economic, and security fields, in a manner that serves the interests of both nations. The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the Horn of Africa and addressed a number of issues of mutual concern in light of the current challenges facing the region.
Strategic dimensions and historical depth
These talks are of particular importance given the sensitive timeframe in the Horn of Africa, where Saudi Arabia, in its leading role in the Arab and Islamic worlds, seeks to strengthen the foundations of security and stability in this vital region. Riyadh views the stability of Somalia as an integral part of the security of the Red Sea, a crucial artery for global trade and for Arab and, in particular, Saudi national security.
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Somalia have enjoyed deep fraternal relations spanning decades, based on ties of religion, Arab identity, and geographical proximity. The Kingdom has consistently been at the forefront of providing political, humanitarian, and developmental support to Somalia, helping it overcome its crises and build its state institutions. This renewed Saudi affirmation strengthens Somalia's diplomatic position in international forums and underscores the necessity of respecting international laws pertaining to the sovereignty of states and their recognized borders.
The reception was attended by His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdul Karim Al-Khuraiji, and His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati, reflecting the high-level interest in developing relations with the Republic of Somalia and supporting its path towards stability and development.
