The Saudi Foreign Minister discusses the refugee issue with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Davos

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs , met today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, on the sidelines of the participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s delegation in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum “Davos” held in the Swiss Confederation.
During the meeting, aspects of joint and established cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees were reviewed, in addition to discussing ways to enhance international humanitarian work and mechanisms to support displaced persons in conflict zones around the world.
Strategic partnership to support humanitarian work
These discussions come within the context of the leading role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in humanitarian and relief work at both the regional and international levels. The Kingdom is one of the largest donors and supporters of United Nations programs, maintaining close strategic partnerships with the UNHCR aimed at alleviating the suffering of millions of refugees and displaced persons affected by wars and natural disasters. Through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, the Kingdom provides financial and logistical support to ensure that aid reaches those in need in various conflict zones.
The importance of international coordination in Davos
This meeting gains particular significance as it takes place at the Davos Forum, a global platform that addresses not only economic issues but also coordinates political and humanitarian efforts to confront global challenges. The refugee crisis is one of the most prominent challenges facing the international community today, necessitating high-level coordination between influential countries like Saudi Arabia and UN organizations to ensure the sustainability of humanitarian solutions and provide necessary protection for the most vulnerable groups.
Regional and international impacts
The two sides discussed the current challenges facing the region and the world, and the importance of intensifying international efforts to contain the escalating humanitarian crises. The meeting reflects the Kingdom's continued commitment to supporting regional stability, not only through diplomatic solutions, but also through direct humanitarian aid that contributes to preserving the dignity of refugees and providing them with decent living conditions until their voluntary return to their countries of origin.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Dawood, Advisor to His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Al-Yahya, and a number of members of the participating Saudi delegation.
