Saudi Foreign Minister praises Lebanon's efforts to extend its sovereignty in Davos

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today with the Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, Nawaf Salam, on the sidelines of the Kingdom's participation in the 2026 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. This meeting comes within the framework of the intensive diplomatic efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to enhance stability in the region and reaffirm its leading role in supporting brotherly nations.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the historical and fraternal relations between their brotherly countries and discussed avenues for joint cooperation in various political and economic fields. They also discussed current developments in Lebanon, with His Highness the Foreign Minister reaffirming the Kingdom's unwavering support for the Lebanese state and its national institutions, emphasizing the Saudi leadership's commitment to Lebanon's security, stability, and the prosperity of its brotherly people.

In a related context, Prince Faisal bin Farhan commended the Lebanese government's tireless efforts to extend its full sovereignty over all Lebanese territory and its serious work to ensure that weapons are solely in the hands of the state and its legitimate institutions. This step is a fundamental pillar of the modern state and one of the most important Arab and international demands for guaranteeing Lebanon's stability and sparing it from external conflicts. This aligns with relevant international resolutions and the principles of the Taif Agreement, which ended the civil war and established a period of civil peace.

The meeting also addressed the important reform steps taken by the Lebanese government and its ongoing efforts to preserve Lebanon's resources and its territorial integrity and unity. These reforms are of paramount importance at present, as they are seen as a key gateway to restoring international confidence in the Lebanese economy and attracting the investments and aid necessary for economic recovery. Saudi support for these steps reflects the Kingdom's strategic vision, which holds that Lebanon's stability is an integral part of Arab national security.

This meeting carries important political implications, especially as it is being held at the Davos Forum, which brings together world leaders and decision-makers. This highlights the continued Saudi interest in the Lebanese issue and the Kingdom’s keenness to mobilize international support to help Lebanon overcome its crises, provided that it adheres to the path of reform and strengthens the logic of the state.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Prince Yazid bin Mohammed bin Fahd bin Farhan, Advisor to His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Lebanese Affairs, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein Abdulrahman Al-Dawood, and Advisor to His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Al-Yahya.
