The Saudi Foreign Minister affirms support for Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a telephone call today from His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Abdulsalam Abdi Ali, during which the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and current regional issues.

During the call, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its unwavering support for the sovereignty of the sisterly Federal Republic of Somalia and its commitment to its unity and territorial integrity, thereby ensuring security and stability in this brotherly Arab nation. This reaffirmation is in line with Saudi Arabia's longstanding policy of supporting the nation-state and its legitimate institutions in confronting various challenges.

The depth of Saudi-Somali relations

These talks are of particular importance given the deep historical ties between Riyadh and Mogadishu, with Saudi Arabia being among the first countries to support Somalia's stability and development. The Kingdom has consistently stood by the Somali people in various crises, driven by the bonds of Arab and Islamic brotherhood and a commitment to strengthening joint Arab action under the umbrella of the League of Arab States, which always emphasizes the need to respect the sovereignty of member states and refrain from interfering in their internal affairs.

The importance of stability in the Horn of Africa

Observers note that Saudi Arabia's emphasis on the territorial integrity of Somalia carries significant strategic implications at this time, given the geopolitical importance of the Horn of Africa. The stability of Somalia is a cornerstone of security in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, vital waterways for global trade and for Arab national security, particularly Saudi Arabia's. Saudi diplomacy is working diligently to defuse tensions in the region through dialogue and support for peaceful solutions that preserve the sovereign rights of nations.

During the call, the two ministers also discussed the latest developments in the region and the efforts being made to deal with them, in addition to discussing a number of topics of common interest, which will enhance coordination and ongoing consultation between the two brotherly countries in regional and international forums.
